Peterhead Harbour at Dawn
Fishing boats in Peterhead harbour as the sun rises at dawn.
The North-East town of Peterhead sits at the easternmost point in mainland Scotland, where over 90,000 tonnes of fish, with a value of around £60m are still landed each year. The harbours, maritime and built heritage are Peterhead's main attractions for visiting tourists to the town. Recent initiatives include investments in the Peterhead Bay area, which have included the berthing of cruise ships in the harbour. During the 2007 Offshore Europe Oil Show held in Aberdeen, the cruise ship Athena was berthed at Peterhead to cater for the visiting oil businessmen.
A number of major projects are planned under the auspices of the Peterhead Project initiative, including tourism strategy development, enhancement of existing attractions and improved marketing and promotion for the town.
