With the generous support of local family company Fotheringham Property Developments, our annual event is hosting its renowned variety of international and more locally based acts for another fun-packed weekend!

Interspersed with live music on the main stage are a magician, aerial acts and surprise music features on a small stage. The Festival is being held for the tenth consecutive year at Sillyflatt Farm, Inverbervie, on the evenings of Saturday, May 2nd. and Sunday, May 3rd. at 7.30PM.

e A92 Stonehaven to Montrose "Coast Road", near the turn-off for the coastal village of Gourdon. As well as the appealing mix and variety of very danceable live music in the evenings, during the Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Music and Craft tuition workshops are also on offer at the nearby Mill of Benholm.

Tuition Workshops

Tuition workshops in the nearby Mill of Benholm on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons will be offered by festival performers and other experts. The workshops take place in the Mill of Benholm, 5 minutes drive or a pleasant half hour's country walk from Sillyflatt.

The Yellow's on the Broom Festival is using the Mill as a venue for music, arts and crafts workshops and stalls from local organisations. The tearoom will be open 1-5 on Saturday and 2-5 Sunday.

The Mill of Benholm Trust is based in a converted water Mill in an idyllic rural setting near Johnshaven, Aberdeenshire. Supported by Aberdeenshire Council, it provides meaningful work and training opportunities in catering, heritage, environmental education and horticulture for adults with special needs.

Tuition workshops will be offered on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons by festival performers and other experts. The workshops will mostly incur a small charge, to cover costs of materials etc.

The workshops take place in and around the Mill of Benholm general area and include, in alphabetical order:

 

African Drumming with Mockoulo. Saturday and Sunday 12:00AM

Mockoulo, and other members of the ensemble, will give a captivating passing-on of knowledge relating the history of African drumming to its practition. They show you the different styles of playing the drums and give guidance on the basics and how to improve your skills.

 

African Dance with Zoe. Saturday and Sunday 1:00PM

The well-travelled and talented Zoe Lampkin will show the elements and essentials of Dance traditions from the West Coast of Africa - beginner to intermediate standard

 

The Bee Doctor. Saturday and Sunday 2:00PM

Give your garden´s VIP`s (Very Important Pollinators) a home with Yvonne Stephan

 

Dressing-Up Box. Saturday and Sunday 1:00PM & 3:00PM

Fairy Workshop with Cath Roberts. Saturday and Sunday 3:00PM

Gourdon's Coastal Colourist Cath Roberts gives secret insight on how to dress up, face paint and adopt the mysterious ways of the fairies.

 

Flying Trapeze. Saturday and Sunday 2:00PM

Ever fancied being amongst the high flyers? Join the best as you learn Aerial Skills and Physical Theatre with the captivating Jennifer Paterson.

 

Rug Making with Christine Fretwell. Saturday and Sunday 1:00PM

Rag-rugging - the recycling of clothes and fabrics into beautiful, usable works of art. The age old art of recycling brought up to date in this fun workshop. Learn about the various methods of ragging used through the centuries and then put this into practise by making your own piece of work. Make yours even more personal by bringing along an old item of clothing to cut up and incorporate into your work. Opportunity to buy tools or kits for continuing your new passion at home.

 

The Soil Doctor. Saturday and Sunday. 1:00-5:00PM

As seen in Beechgrove Garden! Meet Sandy, Peat, Heather and their muddy friends. Bring your own soil for a soil texture measurement and look at the creepy crawlies through the microscope. Soil analysis kits for sale. Also Andi Vinten from the Mill of Benholm team will give expert insites into what lives in the Mill Stream water - and is it good for drinking?

 

Tango and Salsa Dance with Yuri Ventura. Saturday and Sunday 4:00PM

The enterprising Yuri brings his renowned latin dance instruction skills to The Mill of Benholm for those of you who wish to either sharpen up or discover the uncreasingly popular tango and salsa dance - ready for Manosanta on the night!

 

Willow Weaving with Cath Roberts. Saturday and Sunday 1:00PM

Cath Roberts re-appears by popular request to take you through the interwoven world of Willow Weaving, making useful and decorative sculptures for the home and garden from willow wands.
